Partner Heroes: Combating Traffic, Societal Notions, and Stereotypes…Every Day
According to Tom Landry, ‘a winner is someone who never stops trying’. Winners are often people who go through difficulties and put in years of diligence and labor to achieve their position. The outside world only sees the success and felicitation they receive, not the hard work they put in. Their stories need to be told and shared. The world needs these stories, these tales, to follow and extol. We are honoring and sharing one such story today. That of Venkatswamy, our driver partner hero who attached his truck to Porter, sheer dedication and investment to their trade made him the winner of Porter’s Bangalore edition’s Rewards & Recognition Program.
Venkatswamy was born in Kengeri into a family of average means. Due to financial troubles there came a time when his family had to choose between educating him and his elder brother. Our hero decided to drop out then in order for his brother to complete his education. He was only in class IV. At this point he became one of the working members of his family doing odd jobs, learning to do every possible thing along the way. In the process of finding jobs, he found his passion for trucking and driving.
Trucking bought some stability into Venkatswamy’s life, giving him a career and an income. He brought himself a truck and a tempo and employed a driver for the truck. Unfortunately, this did not last long as the driver cheated him on several occasions. He suffered a number of financial loses and was unable to pay his EMI so his truck got seized. His only remaining asset at this point was his tempo which also had remaining EMI installments. He was slowly struggling to make ends meet.
One day while making his locals trips from the Naka he got a call from Porter. At this juncture, his life changed for the better. Upon hearing about the many possibilities offered by the Porter platform Venkatswamy became a partner. That was a year ago. Today he is successful, independent, earns well and is able to solely take care of his wife and three children, one of whom has serious vision issues in both his eyes.
Venkatswamy is an excellent partner. His ratings are always 4.5 and above. He is cordial and always helps customers to the best of his abilities. He logs in for as long as he can sometimes from 9 am to 11 pm to fulfill all his bookings. He never cancels trips and even travels between 3–5 kilometers to receive orders. He is a partner par excellence and it is this dedication that enabled him to win 1st place in Porter’s Bi-Annual Rewards and Recognition program (Aug-2018) which got him a bike.
We believe that his success is all his own and we at Porter have only helped facilitate it. We wish him all the success in the world! When asked about his award, in conclusion, he said “I am happy that I got a platform like Porter where working hard is appreciated and rewarded. Porter has brought stability and helped shed light on my work. I am delighted that my hard work is not only being compensated economically but also being recognized by a noteworthy platform like Porter. Thank you for the honor!”
